Eliseo Di Nunzio says there’s a new reason to eat at Delduca’s: dinner.
Delduca’s, of course, is the Niagara Falls restaurant Eliseo, and his wife
Lucia, have owned since 1994. Located at the corners of Portage and Morrison,
it features end to end windows, and a nouveau, airy interior, warmed by maroon
walls.
Di Nunzio describes the look, “avant garde yet welcoming and personal.” When
the place was opened by the Di Nunzios the response was overwhelming. “We thought
we were going to be a cafe that had coffees, desserts, baked goods and would also
happen to have food,” Eliseo says, “but our food took off so well that we reversed
the roles.” While Delduca’s had been known as a lunch-only restaurant for its
first few years, things have changed with the recent advent of a distinct dinner
menu and six day a week dinner hours.
But no matter what the occassion, whether it be an anniversary or a casual
night out with friends, Eliseo promises a very comfortable, uncomplicated experience.
“There’s a nice ambience here,” he says. “The service is good and so is the food.”
And so is the art.As part of Delduca’s new look, Eliseo purchased and hung up
a number of works by Niagara-on-the-Lake artist, Renaissance Man, and regular
customer, Campbell Scott.
“The paintings reflect his recent trip to Italy and what they help do is bring
life to the place. Campbell’s choice of colours match the colours here remarkably
well, and in the end, the art really adds character. It’s like having a small
city on the walls to look at.”
While there’s art on the walls, Delduca’s highlight is the art on the plates.
Eliseo describes it as, “A fresh interpretation of Italian.” Eliseo, and his mother,
Concetta, do all the interpreting, using the finest and freshest ingredients they
can find, and preparing all meals to order. Even the pasta and ravioli are made
fresh on the premises.
“Our Italian cooking is different and not just made up of meatballs, lasagna,
veal parmigian, and that sort of thing,” Eliseo says. “What we’re doing is new
and different, getting ideas from the Toronto restaurant scene or from the actual
Italian cuisine. We want people to expect something new, something you might not
find anywhere else in the Niagara region.”
What you will find at Delduca’s is an innovative menu, featuring delectable
appetizers and main courses.
“We’re now a full-fledged restaurant, fully licensed, and featuring wines
from Niagara and other countries,” Eliseo says. “And whether peoples’ tastes run
to seafood, steak or veal, we can offer them a wonderful dining experience from
start to finish.”
